The First Avenger: Captain America

Due out in 2011 Captain America is set to depict Steve Rogers, rejected from active duty during World War II for being physically unfit, enter into Project: Rebirth to become America's first super soldier.Given that the film will be set in WWII the characters involved are most likely to be Dr Abraham Erskine (creator of the super-soldier serum), James Buchanan "Bucky" Barnes (Cap's sidekick/mascot who acted secretly as an assassin for Army intelligence) and almost certainly The Red Skull (super Nazi).
Sam Worthington as Captain America/Steve Rogers

He was impressive in the otherwise disappointing Terminator: Salvation, and with key roles in may upcoming major movies (Avatar, Clash of the Titans) Worthington is sure to a household name by the 2011 release date
He is certainly not too old for the role and has a touch of gravitas not found in a lot of actors in his age group. True, he's not an American - but should that matter? Surely you just want to see someone worthy of carrying the shield, and for my money Worthington
is that man.
Joseph Gordon-Levitt as James 'Bucky' Barnes

Gordon-Levitt has come a long way from 3rd Rock from the Sun with critically lauded performances in indie films Brick, The Lookout and (500) Days of
Summer. Gordon-Levitt is the only choice for me as far as Bucky is concerned - he could easily play the part of the cheerful mascot come deadly covert operative.
Viggo Mortensen as The Red Skull

The Red Skull could be laughable if not treated with the proper approach and I believe that Mortensen can can bring that to the part. Mortensen is a great character as can be seen in A History of Violence, Eastern Promises and The Lord of the Rings trilogy and I believe he can bring, what could be depicted as a cartoon character, to life as a real and menacing threat.
Lastly there is Dr Erskine - a small but important character. As the creator of the super-solder serum he may be depicted as a father figure/mentor to young Steve Rogers. There is an opportunity to use this small part for a big name. I would like to see Dustin Hoffman, but others such as John Hurt or perhaps even Anthony Hopkins would be great in the role.
